The Australian Open Tennis Championships

The Championships ____ (run) by Tennis Australia, formerly the LTAA,

Flinders Park was built when the State Government realised the existing facilities were not adequate for a Grand Slam tournament. Construction of the Centre, a multi-purpose venue, commenced in 1986 and was completed in January 1988, to be the scene of the 1988 Ford Australian Open. Further development to the venue occurred during 1995, with these works being completed for the 1996 event.
